A multi-phased renovation of Cornwall Manor’s Buckingham Campus and Woodlands Campus Independent Living Communities in Cornwall, PA is complete with a new UL approved Acuity Rapid Response Wireless Nurse Call, locating pendants for residents/staff, walking trail pendant coverage, a pocket paging system, reporting package and soon to be wander management system.

What they wanted:

Minnie Strickler, Cornwall Manor’s Administrator had been planning on replacing their discontinued Silversphere Companion One nurse call system with a robust wireless emergency call system that could be standardized across the Buckingham Campus, The Woods and the rail trail connecting the two campuses.  In addition to the emergency call system she needed personal locating devices for approximately 12 staff per shift. Her number one concern, like many administrators was the minimalized disturbance to the residents’ everyday lives.  The system was designed in a phased approach starting with the independent living campuses.

Our solution:

The project was completed in 3 phases.  Once the walking trail was complete, residents were able to enjoy the freedom of walking the grounds connecting the two communities, where they were previously limited to their apartment. The Acuity pendants gives resident a lot more flexibly and assurance that they have coverage when on the rail trail, visiting friend or out and about the building.  The previous pendant system only worked in the resident’s home.   If they trip in the parking lot and need help, they press the pendant and they have help.  Caregivers were provided personal location devices as well to call for help or locate them within the building.

“Acuity is a wonderful system with expanded capability. There was an initial learning curve but, everyone seems to be adjusting. The pendants are discrete enough that you can’t always see them. It’s become a joke between the residents and I. I ask if they are wearing their pendants and they pull them out and say “yes I am”. It’s a relief to know that residents can call for help anywhere on campus; you know who and where you are responding to the call. I have to say, landmarks and labels are significant when using mapping out the community for location. Be solid on naming convention!”

Residents and family are very happy with the increased independence and safety that the Acuity Rapid Response Emergency call system provides.

Future steps:

               When asked why Minnie selected Symtech Solutions to custom design their emergency call system she replied,

“Symtech had the product line we were looking for. We needed a system that would enhance the services we provide, and their customer service was above expectations.”

The next system expansion will include the upgrade of the existing Navitech wander management system to the Accutech Residentguard 2400 System which will integrate into the where it will enunciate calls and incorporate system activity into one reporting system.
