The Mary Campbell Center
The Mary Campbell Center is a non-profit healthcare facility that provides residential long-term care for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as programs for disabled youth ages 3-21 years old. After the upgrade of the EHR system, they sought to replace their existing nurse call system with a robust life safety system that empowered staff to provide the highest quality, customized care to their 70+ residents. The project was completed in Spring 2018.
Project Scope:
- Upgrade Nurse Call System
- Pocket pagers
- Pillow speakers
- Auxiliary alarm jacks
- Reporting package
- Bed exit pads
- Future integrations
Our Solution:
Symtech Solutions was selected out of three vendors being evaluated to replace the existing nurse call system. Brad Gaudioso, Director of IT, recalls the process of evaluating nurse call systems, “We researched 3 vendors and Symtech Solutions (Nurse Call Systems Integrator) and Jeron Electronic Systems (Nurse Call Manufacturer) rose to the top of the list quickly because of professional responsiveness, quality, fair pricing, and local support.” It was determined that the Jeron Provider 680+ would be the best solution for the community with pocket pagers, pillow speakers, auxiliary alarm jacks and reporting package. Each room has a patient station with connected pillow speaker for the resident to place a call from bed, a dome light outside the room to signal a call, a pull cord for the bathroom and added auxiliary jack next to the bed. In shared rooms with two residents, one dual patient station is used which allows for one call cord for each bed vs. using two single patient stations.
“As the IT manager of this project, the installation and service of this system was above expectations. The installation of the system was very professional and clean way beyond other contractors. Technicians were kind and compassionate to our residents and treated them with the utmost respect.”
-Brad Gaudioso, Director or IT
The Jeron Provider 680 uses multiple modes of alerting to notify caregivers of active safety risks and situations so they can respond quickly. Urgent resident calls, such as bed exit pads, enunciate at the nurse station, send alerts to caregivers’ pocket pagers and visually display the call by illuminating the dome light outside the resident room. Residents can speak directly to caregivers via pillow speakers and have an auxiliary alarm jack on the nurse call station to integrate devices such as bed exit, ventilator pump, etc.
“The system is very easy to use and intuitive, making ongoing training easy. We LOVE the audio in the rooms!” says Brad Gaudioso, Director of IT. Having never used pagers before it was something new to deal with. We will consider new smart phone options in the future.”
Newly designed stations have break resistant 45-degree swivel connectors for the bed cords to significantly reduce breakage along with a small night light built in to find the station in the dark. Bath stations have smooth, easy to clean, glow in the dark pull cords. The Jeron 680+ reporting package provides automated reporting that can be scheduled to email designated individuals on a predefined scheduled basis making it seamless for administration to monitor caregiver performance and identify bottlenecks in workflow.
“The nursing group appreciates the modern, easy to use hardware, and the precise data from reporting makes them be proactive in reducing issues. Information is the power to being pro-active instead of re-active to call situations and timeliness.”
Future support:
Jeron provides a 5 year warranty on the Provider 680 nurse call system and Symtech provides local service and support 24/7 with customized support plans.
